The HECU's initial foray into Black Mesa was highly successful: the Marines quickly gained an advantage over the confused and frightened survivors and aliens and established a substantial presence within the facility. Many Marines disagreed with their orders. The HECU rapidly takes over the surface areas of Black Mesa using their V-22 Ospreys to drop in men and then dispatches forces into the interior to eliminate the aliens, Black Mesa Security Force, and bring important members of the Science Team up to the surface for brutal interrogation. Unknown to the surviving personnel at Black Mesa, though, the Marines have also been ordered to eliminate Black Mesa's civilian personnel to ensure that the incident is covered up. The Hazardous Environment Combat Unit is dispatched to the facility to fight the aliens and regain control of Black Mesa. They are featured in Half-Life, and its expansion packs, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, and Decay.įollowing the catastrophic Resonance Cascade at the Black Mesa Research Facility, bizarre aliens from Xen teleport into the complex and begin attacking personnel. They especially hate you, Gordon Freeman, personally - because you have cut down quite a few of their buddies. The more you know about the project, the more they want to kill you. It is their job to execute anyone with knowledge of the research project that went awry. Human military units sent in to "clean up" the base following the disaster. In the Half-Life Audio Script, the HECU Marines are described as follows: The HECU are part of a "dangerous and very efficient clean-up crew", and are supposed to work in concert with the Black Ops and the Black Mesa Security Force. This is handy for items that aren't provided by Impulse 101.Īll "mode cheats" (godmode, noclip, notarget, etc) are disabled the same way they are activated.The Marines of the HECU are specially trained to deal with a variety of indoor combat situations, particularly involving a dangerous environment and unconventional enemies. Examples include "give item_healthkit" for a health pack, or "give item_longjump" for the Long Jump Module. Type "give item_" with the item name included. You'll need to know the name of the item in question for this to work. Control it like you would if you were swimming. You should see a message saying "noclip ON". To activate, enter "noclip" into your console menu. You will also be able to phase through solid objects. You will be able to fly, unaffected by gravity and physics. You may have heard of this one, but if not, here's what it does. You should see a message saying "notarget ON". To activate, enter "notarget" into your console menu. They will not attack you, even if you attack them. This command will cause all hostile entities (aliens, marines, etc) except for Tentacles to become passive towards you. Avoid using this when in a moving vehicle, such as a train or elevator, as it may cause you to take damage, or cause the vehicle to stop. To activate, enter "impulse 101" into your console menu. It will equip you with every weapon in the game (yes, you read that right), it will equip your HEV suit (PCV in Opposing Force, guard armor in Blue Shift) if you're not already wearing it, it will add 15% to your suit power (armor integrity in Blue Shift), and it will give you some ammo for all your weapons. This command will likely become your best friend. You will never fear sentry turrets or Tentacles again. You should see a message saying "godmode ON". To activate, enter "god" into your console menu. The only things that will be able to harm you are falling out-of-bounds, or using the kill command. (~)Īs the name suggests, this command will make you completely invincible.
